Julie Butcher

Julie was the kind of person who could turn an ordinary day into something unforgettable. Her smile lit up every room, her laugh was infectious, and she had a rare gift for making people feel happier just by being near her. She was bubbly, full of life and deeply dedicated to the people she loved.

As a sister, friend and mother, her care was second to none. Julie was always there with a listening ear, a word of encouragement or a well-timed joke to lift the mood. She took pride in spreading happiness and was never too busy to share a laugh or a hug. Julie had a heart for others. She often put their needs before her own, going above and beyond to help them through their difficulties—even while facing her own.

From a young age, Julie was full of life and mischief. She also thrived in team environments: she enjoyed netball, Girl Guides and majorettes, and played a range of musical instruments. Julie always made friends easily and had a way of bringing people together wherever she went. She loved singing, dancing like nobody was watching, and filling the air with music and laughter. Julie lived her life with the qualities of a true Girl Guide: kindness, loyalty, friendship and service to others. She poured her heart into every moment, making everyone feel important, welcomed and loved.

As sisters just 19 months apart, we shared not only a bedroom but also an unbreakable bond. Wherever Julie went, I was right behind her. She was my big sister, my teacher and my best friend. Every time I see a shadow, I’m reminded that she is still beside me, and that she left her wisdom within me.

Although Julie’s shadow can no longer be seen, her light and love remain. She will be forever 25 years old. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her spirit of joy, kindness and love continue to live on throughout our community.
